QFA Community Profile

What does Quebec’s English-speaking agricultural community look like? Here are a few statistics! According to Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) statistics tabulated in the summer of 2005, there were 2,105 English-speaking farmers in Quebec operating 1,604 farms. They represent 5% of the total UPA membership. By 2013 this number of farms registered as English had fallen to 1370.

By region:

31% of these farmers (658 farmers) live and farm in Outaouais-Laurentides, 29% (619 farmers) can be found in Monteregie West (in and around Ormstown/Huntingdon), and 24% (384 farmers) are in the Eastern Townships and there is a small cluster in the Gaspe.

By production type:

42% of producers are registered as beef farmers, 13% as cash crop producers, and 12% as dairy producers.

In 2006, as of mid-March, 37% of QFA members were beef producers, 24% were dairy producers, and 8% were cash crop producers.
